Gorgonzola Cheese Recalled in Canada for Possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Arla Foods Inc. are recalling Mauri brand Gorgonzola cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The cheese is a product of Italy.

The cheese was distributed in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. The cheese is sold in 1.44 kg. packages. The code is L. 3100012 and the best before date is 7/4/13.

Foods contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes will not look, smell, or taste spoiled. Listeriosis symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, and nausea. Pregnant women may have only a very mild, flu-like illness, but the bacteria can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.
