In Canada, St. Thomas Clams Realled for Possible Botulism

The CFIA is recalling St. Thomas brand Bar Clams because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Toxins produced by that bacteria can cause paralysis and death. Foods contaminated with the botulism toxin will not look or smell spoiled. Symptoms of botulism include dizziness, fatigue, headache, double vision, nausea, vomiting, and dry throat. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product.

The recalled clams are St. Thomas Bar Clams, sold in jars declaring a drained weight of 210 grams (7.41 ounces). The jars have one of the following lot codes on the jar cover: 03731, 03732, 03831, 03832, 03833, 03931, 03932, 05631, 05633, 05634. The UPC number is 0 81971 90013 1.
