Mongiello Cheese Recalled for Undeclared Allergen

Mongiello Italian Cheese Specialties in New York is recalling about 234 pounds of fresh mozzarella with chorizo and cilantro products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, soy. No reports of adverse reactions have been received to date.

The recalled product is 8 ounce packages of “FORMAGGIO Authentic Hand Rolled Fresh Mozzarella with Chorizo & Cilantro”. The cheese has the establishment number “EST. 34483” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The “use by” date is 5/31/2013. The products were made and packaged on various dates before March 28, 2013 and were distributed to retail stores in New Jersey and New York.

The problem occurred when the company changed chorizo suppliers. Anyone who is allergic to soy could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat this product. If you purchased this product and are allergic to soy, return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
