More Purity First Products Recalled for Controlled Substances

Last week consumers were warned not to consume Purity First Healthy Life Chemistry B-50 dietary supplements because they contained methasterone, a schedule III controlled substance, and dimethazine, an anabolic steroid. Now that recall has been extended to two more products by the company: Vitamin C capsules and Multi-Mineral capules for the same issue.

Dietary SupplementsThe contaminated product could cause liver injury, increased blood lipid levels, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, masculination of women, shrinkage of the testicles, breast enlargement, infertility in males, and short stature in children. The recalled products are B-50, 100 capsule bottles with lot numbers F03Q and C02R. The Multi-Mineral product is in 200 capsule bottles with lot number 12-829. And the Vitamin C is in 200 capsule bottles with lot number E03Q. The products were distributed nationwide through the internet, retail, and retail stores between July 2012 and June 2013.

Consumers should immediately discontinue the use of these products and return them to the place of purchase. Adverse reactions should be reported to FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178 or online.
