Alberto’s Meat Shop Beef Recalled for Undeclared Milk

Chaparros Mexican Foods of Clifornia is recalling about 568,503 pounds of beef products for misbranding and undeclared milk. The products were made with hydrolyzed milk protein, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the label. There is no word about whether or not any allergic reactions have been reported.

The recalled products were sold to restaurants in southern California and to a federally inspected processing facility. They include 100 pound cases containing 20 pounds, five per case, diced beef for broiling labeled “Alberto’s Meat Shop”. Also recalled is 100 pound cases containing 20 pound bags of sliced beef for broiling labeled “Alberto’s Meat Shop.” In addition, 60 pound cases containing beef trim labeled “Alberto’s Meat Shop” are recalled, along with 100 pound cases containing 20 pound bags of beef chorizo labeled “Alberto’s Meat Shop.”

The products were made between November 1, 2013 and May 15, 2014. The production date is stamped on the outer case label. FSIS discovered the problem while checking product labels. If you have any of the recalled product and are allergic to milk, do not eat it. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
