Kraft Recalls Velveeta for Low Preservative Levels

Kraft Foods Group of Illinois is recalling 260 cases of Velveeta cheese product because it doesn’t have enough sorbic acid, a preservative. The Velveeta was shipped to three  Walmart distribution centers and may have been sold in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. It was not shipped outside the United States.

The lack of preservative could cause the product to spoil prematurely and lead to foodborne illness. The recalled product is 32 ounce (2 pound) packages of Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese Product, 12 units per case. The consumer UPC number is 021000611614 and the consumer package code and date/time range is from 17 DEC 2014 09:34 through 13:15 only. The case code date and time range is from 17 DEC 2014 10:54 – 14:35 only. The case UPC code is 10021000611611.

No other Kraft or Velveeta products are affected, and no products outside this time period on that specific date are affected. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or discard.
