Ocean’s Catch Crab Meat Recalled for Listeria Monocytogenes

Ocean's Catch Crab Meat Listeria RecallRome Packing Company of Rhode Island is recalling Ocean’s Catch minced crab meat after product sampling revealed Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take months to develop.

The recalled products include 6-ounce Ocean’s Catch Crab Meat with lot number 101366 and sell by date before 5/14/14; lot number 101507 with sell by date before 5/20/14; and lot number 101540 with sell by date before 5/21/14. Also recalled is 8 ounce Ocean’s Catch All Natural Jonah Crab Combo Meat with lot number 101372 and sell by date before 5/14/14; lot number 101432 with sell by date before 5/19/14, and lot number 101474 with sell by date before 5/20/14.

Also recalled is 16 ounce Ocean’s Catch All Natural Jonah Crab Combo Meat with lot number 101372 with sell by date before 5/14/14; lot number 101391 with sell by date before 5/16/14; lot number 101407 with sell by date before 5/16/14; lot number 101432 with sell by date before 5/19/14; lot number 101474 with sell by date before 5/20/14; and lot number 101539 with sell by date before 5/21/14. They were distributed to stores nationwide, including but not limited to Shaws Supermarkets, Market Basket, and Dave’s Market. You can see product labels at the FDA web site.

If you purchased these products, return them to the place elf purchase for a refund or discard them in a closed container. If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, fever, upset stomach, diarrhea, stiff neck, headache, loss of balance, confusion, or convulsions. Pregnant women are especially susceptible to this disease. Those women may only have a mild illness, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage. If you do become ill, see your doctor as soon as possible and tell him you ate some of this recalled product.
