Kalonji (Nigella Seeds) Recalled in Canada for Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Shah Brothers Imports are recalling Shabros brand Kalonji Whole from the marketplace because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The product was sold nationally. It is Shabros brand Kalonji Whole in 170 gram packages, also known as Nigella seeds. The code on the product is Batch #597, and the UPC number isĀ 0 59011 01037 9.

Food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria will not look, smell, or taste spoiled, but the bacteria can cause serious illness. If you have this product in your home, discard it in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat it. Then wash you hands thoroughly with soap and water. If you purchased this product, you can return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
