Rising Moon Ravioli Recalled for Possible Listeria

Carmel Food Group of Hayward, Calif. is recalling certain Rising Moon Organics frozen Ravioli for the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The ravioli products contain organic spinach which has been recalled after it tested positive for Listeria.

rising-moon-listeria-recallNo illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall, but consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as  Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Seniors, children, those with compromised immune systems and pregnant women are most at risk.

In the recent Listeria outbreak linked to prepackaged caramel apples, 11 of the 35 cases of illness were linked to pregnancy. PritzkerOlsen, a national food safety law firm, filed a lawsuit on behalf of a New Mexico woman whose son was born several months prematurely and spent more than four weeks in a neo-natal intensive care unit. The firm is also representing a 77-year-old man who was hospitalized for two months after eating the seasonal treat.

Consumers who have already eaten this product should save the receipt and monitor themselves for symptoms which include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. These symptoms can take as long as 70 days to appear.
