Target’s Simply Balanced Frozen Spinach Recalled for Listeria

Simply Balanced Frozen Organic Chopped Spinach sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide is being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. There have been several recalls of spinach for Listeria in the past few days. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this pathogenic bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The Production Date Codes and Best By Codes are: 4360SF3 through 7 J1 Best By 26/06/2016; 4360SF3 through 7 J2 Best By 26/06/2016; 5026SF4 through 8 J1 Best By 26/07/2016; 5026SF4 through 8 J2 Best By 26/07/2016; 5051SF2 through 4 J1 Best By 20/08/2016; and 5051SF2 through 4 J2 Best By 20/08/2016.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed container or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Clean out your freezer and/or refrigerator, whether you stored the product, with a mild bleach solution of 1 tablespoon bleach in 1 gallon warm water to kill any bacteria.

If you ate any of this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, diarrhea, and nausea. Pregnant women may only have a very mild illness, but this illness can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and serious infection in the newborn baby. If you do get sick, see your doctor as soon as possible.
