Altijira Murry Products LLC is recalling some of their Foxy’s Thoughtful ice Cream made by Dr. Bob’s because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, although the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.
The six recalled flavors equal less than 4,000 pints. All of them were manufactured and packaged in a facility owned by Dr. Bob’s of Upland. There have been multiple recalls of products made at that facility, which is now closed. The FDA found positive Listeria monocytogenes samples in that facility.
The recalled products are packaged in 16 ounce (1 pint) packages. All of them have best by dates of March 17, 2017; March 18, 2017; March 19, 2017; and March 20, 2017. The recalled flavors are Rather Thoughtful Vanilla, Oregon Cherry Vanilla, California Pistachio, Rocky Road Less Traveled, Uncle Mike’s Double Chocolate, and Salted Caramel and English Toffee. They were sold in stores in California, Pennsylvania, and the northeast United States. These ice care products were also sold online.
If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Then wash your hands well after handling the products.
Clean out your freezer after you discard the products, because freezing does not kill Listeria monocytogenes. Use a mild bleach solution.
If you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths if they contract this infection, even if they are only mildly ill. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
