HEB Beef Stew Products Recalled for Possible Foreign Material Contamination

Swift Beef Co., doing business as JBS USA Food Company, of Cactus, Texas, is recalling about 4,702 pounds of HEB beef stew product that may be contaminated with foreign materials. Specifically, there may be plastic and metal pieces in the product. These materials produce a choking hazard. No reports of injuries or illness have been reported to the company to date.

These boneless beef stew items were produced on December 13, 2017. They include: Cases containing six 5 pound bulk cryovac plastic bags containing fresh beef stew meat intended for HEB grocery store retailer re-package.  The affected case code on this particular product is 69404.  Re-packaged various weight beef stew meat trays that also contain separately wrapped vegetables are also recalled. The meat trays are marked with establishment 7231 on the side of the tray. Finally, re-packaged various weight beef stew labeled as HEB brand are recalled. They include Beef Stew Meat Tenderized RP, Beef Stew Meat RP, Beef Stew Meat VP, Beef Stew Meat-CR VP, Beef Stew Meat Tenderized VP, Beef Stew Meat CP, and Beef Stew Kit.

These products have the establishment number “EST. 3D” next to the USDA mark of inspection, or Est. 7231 on the side of the tray. The products were shipped to HEB retail stores in Texas.

The problem was discovered on December 24, 2017 by the HEB grocery store chain in San Antonio, Texas, when employees opened boxes. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
