BrightFarms of Rochelle, Illinois is recalling packaged produce sold in Roundy’s Supermarkets because they may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. Testing revealed the potential presence of this pathogenic bacteria at the company’s Rochelle, Illinois greenhouse farm in Ogle County. There was no mention in the recall notice if illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
These BrightFarms branded products are sold at Mariano’s Markets in Illinois, and Metro Market and Pick ‘n Save stores in Wisconsin. The products are packaged in clear plastic clamshells.
The best by dates on these recalled salad products are 10/24/2017, 10/25/2017, 10/26/2017, and 10/27/2017. The recalled salads include BrightFarms Baby Spinach in 4 ounce and 8 ounce package sizes; BrightFarms Spring Mix in 4 ounce and 8 ounce packages; BrightFarms Spinach Blend in a 4 ounce package; BrightFarms Baby Greens Blend in 4 ounce and 8 ounce packages; BrightFarms Baby Kale sold in 3 ounce packages; BrightFarms Baby Arugula in 4 ounce packages; and BrightFarms Baby Romaine Mix in 4 ounce packages.
Basil products are also recalled. They are packaged in clear plastic clamshells with these best by dates: 10/24/2017, 10/25/2017, 10/26/2017, and 10/27/2017. They include BrightFarms Basil in 0.75 ounce and 2 ounce packages; BrightFarms Thai Basil sold in 0.75 ounce packages, and BrightFarms Lemon Basil sold in 0.75 ounce packages.
Retailers have been instructed to remove all of these products from store shelves because of possible E. coli contamination. The company is recalling these products out of an abundance of caution, after learning that some products may have been compromised.
If you bought these products, do not eat them, even if you plan on cooking with them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
