Casa Sanchez Foods of California is recalling “Real Guacamole” for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to the company or public health officials to date in connection with this problem.
The FDA sampled this product and found Listeria monocytogenes in it. It was distributed to retail stores throughout the California Bay Area and surrounding counties.
The recalled product is Casa Sanchez Foods Real Guacamole in 9 ounce, clear plastic containers. The UPC number is 0 78732 00412 2. A white sticker on the bottom label shows the manufacturing lot code 279 and the product expiration date of 11/10/17.
If you purchased this product with those numbers, dates, and UPC numbers, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed package or secure garbage can, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Then you should clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F. Wipe down the shelves with a wet cloth or paper towel after you use the bleach solution, then dry everything off. Make sure that you wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds ends after you handle this product.
If you ate this product, you need to watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days, because that’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Symptoms can include stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, a high fever, severe headache, and stiff neck. Pregnant women may feel like they have the flu, but this illness can cause stillbirth, premature labor, and miscarriage. If you get sick, see your doctor.
