Ground Beef Sold in Texas Recalled for Undeclared Soy

PFP Enterprises, doing business as Texas Meat Packers of Texas, is recalling about 7,570 pounds of ground beef products. The products contain soy, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the product label. No allergic reactions have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The products are raw and frozen. They were made on September 28, 2017. They include 40 pound cases containing four 10-pound bags of “85/15 Ground Beef Bulk” with item code 4013 and Patterson Food Processors printed on the label. Also recalled is 10-pound cases containing two 5-pound bags of “85/15 Ground Beef Bulk” with item code 4012 and Patterson Food Processors printed on the label. These items have the establishment number “EST. 34715” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to a distributor and institutional locations in Texas.

The problem was discovered with FSIS received a complaint from a school about the product’s packaging. Lab testing confirmed that the product contained soy and added water.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to soy, don’t eat it. Throw it away or take the ground beef back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

The symptoms of a food allergy can be mild or severe. Early symptoms include tingling of the lips, tongue, mouth, and throat, coughing, a runny nose, itchy eyes or face, wheezing, and shortness of breath. A skin rash or hives may appear. Serious symptoms may include swelling of the throat that can cut off the airwaves, vomiting, and diarrhea.
