Willis Ocean Recalls “the duck” Scomber Fish for Botulism Risk

Willis Ocean of New York is recalling its “the duck” brand “frozen steamed scomber fish” because it was uneviscerated. Uncleaned fish are not allowed for sale under New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations because those products are more likely to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores. No reports of illness have been received to date.

The recalled product was distributed nationwide at the retail level. The product is in clear plastic wrapped styrofoam tray, with two whole fish and a red label stating “product of Thailand.” The UPC number of the recalled fish isĀ 040459097206.

If you bought this fish, do not eat it, even if you plan to cook it. Throw it away in a double bagged or sealed package, or take it back to the store of purchase for a full refund.
