Barbecued Beef Products Recalled for Foreign Material Contamination

J.T.M. Provisions of Harrison, Ohio is recalling about 14,525 pounds of fully cooked not shelf stable pulled barbecued beef products because they may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically rubber. This may pose a choking hazard. No injuries or illnesses have been reported to the company or to FSIS to date in connection with this problem.

The problem was discovered after two consumers complaints about foreign material in the product. The product was produced on September 23, 2017. It is 14 ounce sealed plastic trays covered with a paper sleeve. It contains pulled (shredded) barbecued beef labeled “Bar-B-Q Sauce With Pulled Beef.” The Julian pack date of 17266 is printed on the label. The product has the establishment number “EST. 1917” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The beef was shipped to retail outlets in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

If you bought this product, don’t eat it. Discard it in a sealed package or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund. FSIS is concerned that some of this product may be frozen in consumers’ freezers. Check your freezer to make sure you don’t have this in your home. Anyone who may be concerned about a possible injury should contact their healthcare provider.

FSIS is going to conduct retail effectiveness checks to make sure that the firm notifies customers of this recall. The USDA sometimes posts retail distribution lists on their website to inform consumers about the facilities that sold these recalled products. If available, you can find that list at the USDA website in the next few days.
