Ikea Marshmallow Candy Recalled in Canada For Possible Contamination From Mice

Ikea Canada is recalling their Ikea marshmallow candy (GODIS PÅSKKYCKLING) from stores in Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec because it may be contaminated with bacteria from mice. Mice were found at the manufacturing plant. These bacteria could be harmful to people. No illnesses associated with the consumption of this product have been reported to date.

The recalled product is Ikea Marshmallow Candy, sold in 100 gram packages. The UPC number on the product is 1.602.603.11.0002. All date codes on packages sold in 2018 are recalled. The candy is yellow and white and shaped like chicks. The product is packaged in a pink plastic bag with yellow chicks printed on it.

The recalled was triggered by the company. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The government is also making sure that all of these products are removed from the marketplace.

Diseases transmitted by rodents such as mice and rats can include hantavirus, Lassa fever, leptospirosis, Salmonellosis, listeriosis, and tularemia. The bacteria is transmitted through the urine, droppings, and saliva of rodent.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed package in a secure garbage can so other people and animals can’t eat it, or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product. It’s also a good idea to disinfect the area where you stored this product in your home.
