Inspired Organics Sunflower Butter Recalled for Listeria

Inspired Organics is recalling Organic Sunflower Butter because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The recalled product was distributed exclusively by Lipari Foods, LLC. The butter was sold through food service and retail stores in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and in Ontario, Canada. The recalled product is Inspired Organics Organic Sunflower Butter in 16 ounce containers. The Lipari Item Number is 967064, the best by date is 10/2019, the lot number is 099, and the UPC number is 863669742526.

The Listeria bacteria was found in the product by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). Lipari foods began shipping the product on April 17, 2018.

If you purchased this product, don’t eat it. Discard it in a sealed or wrapped package, or return it to the place of purchase.

It’s a good idea to then clean out your refrigerator or pantry, or wherever you stored this Sunflower Butter, with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can be persistent and difficult to eradicate. Use a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach in one gallon of warm water. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after handling this product.

If you ate this product, you should monitor your health for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days, because that’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. If you do feel sick with fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, or diarrhea, see your doctor.
