Marketside Green Beans and Squash Recalled For Possible Listeria

Southern Specialties of Pompano Beach, Florida is recalling some bags of Marketside green beans and butternut squash because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

The company shipped this recalled product to one distribution center. Most of the product was retrieved before it was sent to retail stores, some did reached stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. A raw material supplier notified the company after a food contact surface tested positive for the pathogen. None of the products that Southern Specialties received have tested positive.

The recalled items are all Marketside brand. They include Bagged Green Beans in 32 ounce (2 pound) (907 gram) containers. The UPC number is 681131457385, the best if used by date is MAR-9-2019, and the lot codes on the bag are 83931-123 or 83939-124. Also recalled is Bagged Green Beans in 12 ounce (340 gram) packages. The UPC number on that product is 681131328869, the best if used by date is MAR-8-2019, and the lot codes are 83928-628 or 83932-123. Finally, Bagged Butternut Squash in 16 ounce (1 pound) (454 gram) packages is recalled. The UPC number on that product is 681131122351, the best if used by date is MAR-6-2019, and the lot codes are 83940-319 or 83940-139. You can find the lot codes and UPC numbers in the white box on the front of the package in the right hand corner.

If you purchased these items, don’t eat them, even if you plan to cook them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund. Clean out your fridge with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. And wash your hands well with soap and water after handling these packages.
