Premium Foods Recalls Siluriformes Without Import Inspection

Premium Foods recalls siluriformes; about 76,025 ponds of various Siluriformes fish products imported by that company into the United States were not presented for import re-inspection. That company is the importer of record. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date in connection with this lack of inspection.

The products were imported from Bangladesh and Myanmar,  two countries that are not eligible to export Siluriformes fish products into the United States. These items were shipped to retail locations in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The siluriformes were imported on various dates ranging from March 26, 2018 through March 8, 2019. You can see the long list of recalled products at the USDA web site, along with pictures of the labels. Some of the products include Shahjalal There is no Equal Long Whiskered Fish/AYRE (Sperata oar), Shahjalal There is no Equal Yellowtail Catfish/PANGASH (Pangasius pangasius), Shahjalal Bangladeshi Fresh Water Fish (Bacha) Catfish (Cln), Eutropiichthys vacha, Shahjalal Bangladeshi Fresh Water Fish (Pabda) Pabda Catfish (Cln) Ompek Pabda, and Shahjala Bangladeshi Fresh Water Fish Boal (Wallago attu), among others.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities of imported products. FSIS is concerned that some of these products could be frozen in consumers’ freezers. If you purchased any of these recalled fish products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a secure and sealed garbage can, or take the back to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.

FSIS is making sure that the company has informed all of its customers about this recall. They are also checking to be sure these products are no longer available to consumers.
