San Giuseppe Salami Recalled For Foreign Material Contamination

San Giuseppe Salami Company of Elon, North Carolina, is recalling about 832 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen andouille sausage because they may be contaminated with foreign material, more specifically pieces of metal. A consumer contacted the company and told them he found a piece of a metal ring in the product. This can pose a choking hazard or a mouth injury hazard. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to the company or the USDA in this issue.

The recalled product was produced on May 14, 2019. The recalled product is varying weights of vacuum-packed, individually-sealed packages containing “San Giuseppe Salami Co. by Giacomo Andouille Sausage (Smoke Flavoring Added).” The product has a sell by date of 11/10/2019 printed on the case labels. There is no mention of a UPC number. This sausage has the establishment number “EST. 21556” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausages were shipped to retail and institutional locations in Greensboro, North Carolina.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. FSIS is concerned that some of this product may be in consumers’ home freezers.

FSIS is also conducting retail effectiveness checks to make sure the firm is notifying customers about this recall, and that the firm is taking steps to ensure that the product is no. longer available to consumers. If a retail distribution list becomes available, the USDA will post it on their web site.
