Sprouts Farmers Market Recalls Frozen Spinach For Listeria

Sprouts Farmers Market of Phoenix, Arizona is recalling Frozen Cut Leaf Spinach, in both conventionally grown and organic forms because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The spinach was manufactured by National Frozen Foods of Oregon. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue.

The recall has been issued because random sampling found that the product contained the pathogen. The recalled products are:

  • Sprouts Frozen Cut Leaf Spinach packaged in a 16 ounce bag, with UPC number 87487500982, Lot number 19031203A03, and use by date of 12/03/21.
  • Sprouts Frozen Organic Cut Leaf Spinach, in a 16 ounce bag, with UPC number 87487500991, Lot number 19031203A03, and use by date of 12/03/21.

You can find the identifying UPC number, lot number, and use by date on the back of the package. These products were distributed to retail stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.

Sprouts Market has removed all of these products from its retail stores. The company is also conducting an internal investigation with National Frozen Foods.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you plan to cook it first. Discard it in a wrapped package in a secure garbage can, or take it back to the store where you purchased it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.

The symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirth if they contract this infection, even if their illness is mild and similar to the flu. If you have eaten this product and have been sick, see your doctor.
