Giant Eagle Dried Island Fruit Mix Recalled For Undeclared Allergens

Giant Eagle, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Giant Eagle Dried Island Fruit Mix because the product may contain peanut, almond, soy, and milk, four of the major food allergens. Anyone who is allergic to those four ingredients, plus anyone who is lactose intolerant, could have a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat this product. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to the company to date.

The recalled product is Giant Eagle Dried Island Fruit Mix that is sold in the produce department of the Carmel Market District in Indiana, the Edinboro Giant Eagle in Pennsylvania, and select Giant Eagle and Market District locations in Ohio. It has a best by date of January 15, 2021 and the UPC number 3003491435.

Giant Eagle was made aware of the issue by a guest who bought the product. The problem was a packaging error made by the product manufacturer.

If you purchased this product and cannot eat peanuts, almonds, soy, or milk for whatever reason, don’t eat it. Throw it away or take it back or take a receipt back to the local Giant Eagle or Market District store for a refund. Giant Eagle has also initiated its consumer recall telephone notification process that alerted households that have purchased recalled products.

Symptoms of food allergies can range from mild to severe. Early symptoms can include tingling of the mouth, lips and tongue, itching, and hives. More serious symptoms can include swelling of the throat and difficulty breathing. Symptoms of lactose intolerance can include gas, bloating, pain in the abdomen, and diarrhea.
