CDC Joins Investigation of Minnesota Salmonella Outbreaks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has joined the the investigation of two Salmonella outbreaks in Minnesota linked to raw, frozen chicken Kiev and chicken Cordon Bleu. The outbreaks have sickened seven people, hospitalizing four of them. Illnesses in other states have not been linked to either outbreak, but the investigation is ongoing. Barber Foods of Portland, Maine has issued a recall for chicken Kiev products linked to one of the outbreaks. But Antioch Farms has not issued a recall for chicken Cordon Bleu products that have been linked to the other. Health officials are concerned that consumers may have these products in their freezers. Chicken Kiev Linked to Salmonella Outbreak Sold at Sam’s Club

Frozen chicken Kiev products linked to a Minnesota Salmonella outbreak were sold at Sam's Club stores in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota.  At least four people who ate the product contracted Salmonella poisoning, two of them were hospitalized. The recalled product, Barber brand Premium Entrees Chicken Kiev were produced by Barber Foods of Portland, Maine which has recalled 58,320 pounds of the product. Consumers who  have purchased this product should not eat it as Salmonella can cause serious, sometimes life-threatening illness. Eating foods contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis. Minnesota Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Barber Chicken Kiev

A Salmonella outbreak linked to Barber brand frozen chicken Kiev has sickened four people in Minnesota.  Two people were hospitalized. The illnesses were reported from April 5 through June 8 among case patients ranging in age from 19 to 82 years. All of the cases were reported in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Barber has issued a recall for the product which was sold at Sam's Club stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois and at other stores.  The recalled products have “use by/sell by” dates of April 28, 2016, May 20, 2016 and July 21, 2016 and Lot Code numbers 0950292102, 0950512101, or 0951132202. The establishment number “P-276” appears inside the USDA mark of inspection. Linked to Salmonella Outbreak, Barber Chicken Kiev is Recalled

A Salmonella outbreak has prompted the recall of frozen chicken kiev products made by Barber Foods of Portland, Maine. Barber is recalling approximately 58,320 pounds of frozen, Chicken Kiev produced on January 29, 2015; February 20, 2015; and April 23, 2015. Consumers who  have purchased this product should not eat it as Salmonella can cause serious illness. The recalled products were sold through June 26 at Sam's Club stores in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The boxes are labelled “BARBER FOODS PREMIUM ENTREES BREADED-BONELESS RAW STUFFED CHICKEN BREASTS WITH RIB MEAT KIEV.” They have "use by/sell by" dates of April 28, 2016, May 20, 2016 and July 21, 2016 and Lot Code numbers 0950292102, 0950512101, or 0951132202. The establishment number “P-276” appears inside the USDA mark of … [Read more...]
