In Canada, Pumpkin Seed Pesto Recalled for Botulism

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Williams-Sonoma are recalling Pumpkin Seed Pesto because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum toxin. No illnesses have been reported in relation to the consumption of this product. Botulism toxin cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. It does not affect the taste or texture of food, but a tiny amount can cause paralysis and death.

The recalled product is Williams-Sonoma brand Pumpkin Seed Pesto in 227 gram containers. The code on the product is Best Before January 2016 and the SKU numbers are 6404305 and 6389043. The product was sold in Alberta and Ontario at the retail level.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a closed or double bagged container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Symptoms of botulism poisoning include dizziness, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, and difficulty breathing. If you ate this product and are experiencing these symptoms, see a doctor immediately.
