Boulder Ice Cream has announced a voluntary recall of certain ice cream and gelato products manufactured using peanut ingredients recalled by Sunland Inc. for potential Salmonella contamination. The company was notified by their manufacturer Fresca Foods, Inc. located in Louisville, CO that Sunland peanuts were and may have been used in the production of certain peanut butter products in the past.
The products were distributed nationwide to large supermarket chains; the larger format container products were distributed to food service. The UPC is located on the side and the “Best By” date is imprinted on the bottom of each 16 oz consumer pint container and on the sides of food service containers. All Yoki Bliss products contain a manufacture date.
The recalled items include: 16 oz Boulder Ice Cream Peanut Butter Cup UPC: 65388802142 with “Best By” 08-16-13 or earlier, 16 oz Sorano Gelato Chocolate Peanut Butter UPC:65388807004 with “Best By” 08-10-13 or earlier, 5 L Pan Boulder Homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Gelato UPC: 65388850103with “Best By” 10-03-12 or earlier, 2.5 Gal Tub Boulder Ice Cream – Peanut Butter Cup with “Best By” 07-24-12 or earlier, 2.5 Gal Tub Boulder Ice Cream – Elvis UPC: 65388806112 with “Best By” 07-24-12 or earlier and4 x 1 Gal Yoki Bliss – Peanut Butter Mfg Date 09-24-12 or earlier.
Consumers who have purchased this gelato or ice cream should not eat it. Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious illness. Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with eating this product, Sunland peanut products have been linked to multi-state Salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 40 people.
