Sockeye Salmon Sold At Florida Whole Foods Stores Recall

Sockeye salmon sold at Whole Foods stores in Florida is being recalled for possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. Michael Gourmet Delicacies issued the recall of  Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Batch# 1443 sold  on November 19 after Florida health officials discovered Listeria in a routine sampling of the product.

Recall SignThe recalled salmon was sold in all Whole Foods in the State of Florida from June 12, 2012 through November 16, 2012.  The products under recall include: 4oz Michaels Gourmet Delicacies’ Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Vacuum Packed Batch# 1443 UPC Code 93573 81729, 8oz Michaels Gourmet Delicacies’ Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Vacuum Packed Batch# 1443 UPC Code 93573 81728, 16oz Michaels Gourmet Delicacies’ Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Vacuum Packed Batch# 1443 UPC Code 13964 11568, 4oz Trimmings in Plastic Container Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Batch# 1443 UPC Code 93573 81729.

Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogen that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, pregnant women and others with weakened immune system. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them. They can be returned to Whole Foods stores in Florida.
