Canadian XL Foods E. coli 0157:H7 Ground Beef Recall Grows

The public warning issued on September 16, 2012 in Canada for ground beef produced by XL Foods (Establishment 38) has grown to include more products. You can see the long list of products at the CFIA web site. The meat may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7.

E. coliThe regular, lean, and extra lean ground beef; lean ground sirloin; pork beef and sausage was prepared for Loblaws. Generic ground beef that is recalled includes ground sirloin patties, medium, regular, and extra lean ground beef sold at Extra Foods, No Frills, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, Shop Easy, SuperValu, Superstore, Westfair, and Your Independent Grocer. Other stores where the recalled beef was sold include Sobeys, Foodland, IGA, Metro, Super C, and Entrepot de Viandes. Please look at the long recall list carefully to see if you have any of these products in your home.

If you are not sure if you have purchased the recalled products, contact your retailer to be sure. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. Since food contaminated with E. coli does not look or smell spoiled, cross-contamination can easily take place. For questions, call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET.
