In Canada, Lettuce May be Contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public to not eat Tanimura & Antle brand romaine lettuce because it may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria. The lettuce was grown in the United States.

The product is sold in a plastic package containing 1 head of lettuce. The UPC number is 0 27918. The lettuce was sold at retail from August 8, 2012 to August 17, 2012. Stores that received the lettuce are in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut, and Yukon.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the consumption of this product. E. coli 0157:H7 can cause serious illnesses including hemolytic uremic syndrome, that can be life-threatening. Symptoms of E. coli food poisoning include bloody diarrhea and severe abdominal pain.  For questions or more information, call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
