Minnesota Company Recalls Beef Sirloin Products Because of Misbranding

J&B Group Inc., located in St. Michael, Minnesota, is recalling about 2,645 pounds of beef sirloin products because they are misbranded and contain an undeclared allergen, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The products contain milk, one of the eight major allergens, not declared on the label.

Product details:

  • 10.5-pound cases of 28 count, 6-ounce “ELLINSON MEAT COMPANY BEEF SIRLOIN TOPP BUTT STEAK, CAP OFF, NO ROLL, MARINATED,” with identifying case code of “62149.”
  • 10-pound cases of 16 count, 10-ounce “ELLISON MEAT COMPANY BEEF SIRLOIN TOP BUTT STEAK CAP OFF/TENDERIZED WITH FICIN & BROMELAIN” with an identifying case code of “62151.”
  • Both products have an establishment number “EST. 15805” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
  • Products were produced between January 1, 2011, and September 7, 2011
  • Were distributed for institutional use in Montana, North Dakota, and Texas.

Consumers may not have access to the above label information. The problem, discovered by the company during a label review, occurred because the wrong ingredient statement was entered into the company’s labeling system.

There have been no reports of adverse reactions or illness due to the consumption of these products. If you have questions, call 1-763-497-3913.
