Smoked Sausage Recalled for Undeclared Whey and Casein

The USDA, FSIS, and J Bar B Foods of Waelder Texas are recalling 64,020 pounds of smoked sausage because it contains undeclared whey and casein. They are milk proteins, dangerous for people with milk allergies.

Recall Signs 3Product details:

  • Eckrich Smoked Sausage Made with Pork and Beef
  • 11 pound boxes
  • Sell-by date of March 26, 2012 or later
  • Establishment number “EST 7066” inside the USDA mark of inspection<?li>
  • Products were produced from January 16, 2012 to the present
  • Sent to distribution centers in Dallas, Texas and Indianapolis, Indiana for institutional use

The company discovered the problem during a label review. A spice mix from a supplier contained hydrolyzed whey and casein protein. There have not been any reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of this product.
