Spence & Co Recalls Nova Lox Smoked Salmon for Possible Listeria

Spence & Co. of Massachusetts is recalling New York-Style Nova Lox in 4 ounce packages with code/lot number 9720704 because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects a total of 1,563 packs of the product. Two people may have been stricken with listeriosis associated with the consumption of this product.

If you have purchased this product, discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you ate this product and have suffered the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning, including fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, see your health care provider immediately. Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirth in pregnant women and can be fatal in the very young, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

It was distributed in Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and in the Detroit area between 9/26/12 and 10/5/12. It was also distributed to Earthfare stores in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Ohio between 9/28/12 and 10/5/12. It was sold in Shaws Supermarkets in New England on 9/28/12, with expiration date of 10/21/12. It was also sold at Roche Bros. in Massachusetts on 9/26/12, with expiration date of 10/19/12. And finally, it was sold at Fresh Markets in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Ilinois, Alabama, Arizona, Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
