Turkana Foods Recalls Dried Apricots for Undeclared Sulfites

Turkana Food Inc. of New Jersey is recalling Turkish “Turkana Valley” brand dried apricots because they have undeclared sulfites. People with sensitivities to sulfites may have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product.

Recall SignThe recalled products are in 250 gram (8.82 ounce) plastic containers with lot number 11-4, expiration date of 2-2013, and UPC number 8692594007804. Also recalled are 500 grams (17.63 ounce) plastic containers with lot number 11-3, expiration date of 2-2013, and UPC number 8692594007811. The packages have an orange and black colored label. They were distributed to retail stores in the northeast United States. The apricots are a product of Turkey.

If you have purchased these apricots and are allergic to sulfites, return them to the place of purchase for a refund. For questions, call the company at 908-810-8800 Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm ET, and Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm ET.
