Veggie Patch Meatless Burgers Recalled for Possible Listeria

Veggie Patch is recalling its Veggie Patch Ultimate Meatless Burgers because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  The FDA has not released this information, and there is no word whether or not anyone has been sickened by this product.

Recall SignageThe product is sold in 9 ounce packages. The UPC number is 61012900211, with a sell by date of January 12, 2013. It was sold at Stop & Shop, Giant Food Stores, Martin’s, and Giant of Maryland stores.

If you have purchased this product, return it to the place of purchase for a refund. The symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning include a flu-like fever and muscle aches, upset stomach or diarrhea, stiff neck, headache, loss of balance, and confusion. Those in high risk groups can become seriously ill with listeriosis. Pregnant women may have only very mild symptoms, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.
