Whole Foods Recalls Cookies for Undeclared Nut Allergens; One Person Ill

Whole Foods Market is recalling two cookies from their bulk bins because they contain almonds and pecans, two of the major food allergens, that are not declared on the label. The products were sold loose as Cookies-by-the-Pound, a self-serving section in the Bakery area of the store.

The products are Wedding Cookies, which contain pecans, and Almondine Wedding Cookies, which contain almonds. One illness has been confirmed in Georgia. Anyone with an allergy or severe sensitivity to those foods could have a serious or life-threatening reaction. The cookies were distributed in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee between October 22 and November 15, 2012.

The point-of-sale signs were missing the allergen information. If you purchased these products and are allergic to tree nuts, return them to Whole Foods for a full refund. For questions, call 512-542-0060 Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm CT, excluding November 22-23, 2012.
