Heartland Brands Recalls Granola for Foreign Materials

Heartland Brands is recalling two varieties of granola in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Israel, and Trinidad because it may contain fragments of flexible metal mesh. The ingredient that caused the problem is a grain blend. The ingredient supplier, Dakota Specialty Milling, discovered and reported the problem. There are no reports of consumers complaints or injuries to date.

The cereals are Heartland® Harvest Spice Granola Cereal in 14 ounce packages with UPC number 024300 090394 and Best If Used By dates from 20130326 (March 26, 2013) through 20130910 (Sept. 10, 2013). Also recalled is Heartland® Fruit & Nut Harvest Granola Cereal in 14 ounce packages with UPC number 024300 090387 and Best If Used By dates from 20130325 (March 25, 2013) through 20130910 (Sept. 10, 2013).

If you purchased the recalled products, do not eat them. Return them to the place of purchase for a refund. You can also retain the Best if Used By code and contact Consumer Affairs at Heartland Brand for a refund. The phone number is 1-888-881-6769 and is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm ET and Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm ET.
