In Canada, Garlic Powder Recalled for Possible Salmonella

In Canada, Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling Suraj brand garlic powder because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product. The recall was triggered by CFIA test results.

The recalled product is sold in 400 gram containers, with UPC numberĀ 0 57197 37238 0 and best before 2015 AL 22. The garlic powder was sold nationwide at the retail level.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look, smell, or taste spoiled. The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include headache, fever, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long term complications of a Salmonella infection include reactive arthritis and heart disease.
