In Canada, Smoked Meat Recalled for Listeria Monocytogenes

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Les Salaisons Desco Inc. are recalling smoked meat from the marketplace because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product.

The recalled product is Schwartz’s smoked meat in 500 gram (4 x 125 g) containers. The code on the product is 2013DE13, and the UPC number is 6 27533 96123 5. The meat was sold in Ontario and Quebec. If you have this product in your home, throw it out or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

If you ate this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the disease caused by the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, for the next two monthsSchwartz-. Symptoms can include vomiting, persistent fever, nausea, muscle aches, flu-like illness, severe headache, and neck stiffness. The symptoms may not appear for 70 days after exposure. Pregnant women may have only mild symptoms, but Listeria bacteria can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.
