In Canada, Stuffed Eggplant Recalled for Possible Botulism

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling Osmat Imports brand Stuffed Eggplant because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. This bacteria produces a toxin that causes serious illness and death. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product.

The product was sold in 2 kg jars (4.4 pounds), bearing UPC number 8 37770 00009 7 and best before date of Lot 6 EXP JA 14. The product was distributed in Alberta and British Columbia.

Foods contaminated with Clostridium botulinum will not look, taste, or smell spoiled. But a tiny amount of the toxin can cause serious illness and death. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund. For questions, call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
