In Canada, Tahini Recalled for Possible Salmonella

TahiniThe Canadian Food Inspection agency is recalling Sesameco Tahini because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The product was sold from March 5, 2013 to May 15, 2013 in 18 kg (40 pound) package with no label and no lot code.

The product was sold in bulk and may have been repacked at the retail level. Consumers who can’t determined the original product identity are advised to check with their retailers to determine if they have the recalled product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product.

In addition, Tahini sold by Phoenicia Group is being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. The 2 pound package has UPC number  0 62356 54525 3, and the 40 pound package has UPC number 0 62356 54522 2. The product was sold starting February 1, 2013 in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec and was possibly sold nationwide. This recall does not include Cedar Tahini products with a lot code on the package.
