Ramona Family Market Salmonella Outbreak Grows To 21 Sick

The Ramona Family Market Salmonella outbreak has grown to include 21 patients, according to the San Diego County Health Department. Seven people have been hospitalized. That’s an increase of seven cases and three hospitalizations since the last update was issued on July 28, 2026. The outbreak began on June 21, 2026. The patient age range, according to the first update, is from 27 to 60. The market is located at 325 6th Street in Ramona, California.

The contaminated food officials are focusing on is mayonnaise, which was made with raw eggs purchased from Happy Hens, a poultry farm close to the market. The eggs may have been used to make other foods sold at the Market or its deli. And there are more cases of patients sick with the same strain of Salmonella that are not linked to the market; public health officials are investigating.

Eggs and food made with eggs should always be cooked to a minimum of 160°F, and that temperature should be checked with a reliable food thermometer. Eggs have been linked to many Salmonella outbreaks in recent years, such as the deadly outbreak linked to August Eggs in 2025, or the outbreak linked to Milo’s Poultry Farm Eggs. The issue is that the pathogen may actually be inside the egg, because it is in the hen’s ovaries.

This outbreak is not linked to the multistate Salmonella outbreak caused by Midwest Poultry Services, that has sickened at least 98 people in 17 states. That outbreak has hospitalized 26 patients.

If you have eaten at Ramona Family Naturals Market, or have eaten uncooked or undercooked eggs or anything made with them in San Diego County and have been ill with the symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning, see your doctor. Your doctor must report your illness to the county. If you do not want to see a doctor, report your illness to the county; your information may help solve this outbreak.
