The FDA is announcing that Reser’s Fine Foods of Oregon is expanding its recall of refrigerated ready-to-eat products because the foods may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. We told you about the expansion of this recall on October 26, 2013 for products regulated by the USDA. But the FDA regulates some of the products made without meat, so the recall list has expanded further. No illnesses have been reported to date in association with the consumption of these products.
You can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA web site. Products were sold in the U.S. and in Canada. U.S. brands include 7-11, Aldi, Block and Barrel, Casa Solana, Dickeys, Dillons, Famous Daves Cobblestreet Market, Jewel, King Sooper, Miller, Mrs. Giles, Mrs. Weaver, Orval Kent, Green Hill, Reser’s, Chef’s Choice, Safeway, Safeway deli counter, Sav-A-Lot, Stonemill, Essential Everyday, Sysco, Cross Valley Farms, Walmart, Marketside, West Creek, My Premier, and Yoder. Canadian brands include Block and Barrel Imperial, Casa Solana, Mrs. Giles, Orval Kent, Reser’s, Reser’s Canada, Sysco, and Target Canada.
Recalled products include spinach dip, pasta salads, potatoes, slaw, pimiento cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, macaroni, BBQ beans, pumpkin mousse, ambrosia salad, rotisserie chicken, broccoli salad, seafood salad, fruit salads, and other products. Look carefully at the list of recalled foods, because it is very long. If you did purchase one or more of these products, return it to the place of purchase or discard it.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness among those in high risk groups. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth. The problem with this bacteria is that symptoms may not appear for 70 days after exposure. If you ate any of the recalled products, monitor yourself for symptoms of listeriosis for the next two months. Those symptoms include flu-like symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, upset stomach, diarrhea, stiff neck, headache, and loss of balance. If you do exhibit these symptoms, please see your health care provider immediately.
