Natura Expands Recall of Pet Products for Possible Salmonella

Natura is voluntarily expanding its March 29, 2013 recall of dry pet foods because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The recall now includes all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates before and including March 24, 2014.

Recall SignageThe brands recalled include: California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Innova, and Karma.  All sizes, all dry dog and cat food and treat varieties, all UPC numbers and all lot codes are recalled. All expiration dates before and including March 24, 2014 are included in the recall. No canned wet food or biscuits are affected by this recall.

Animals infected with Salmonella may be lethargic, with diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected pets may appear healthy but be carriers of the bacteria. People with Salmonella infections will have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea which may be bloody, abdominal cramping, and fever.

If you purchased any of these products, discard them in a closed container so animals can’t eat them. The products were sold through veterinary clinics and pet retailers nationwide and in Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Costa Rica. They were also sold online.
