Natura Pet Expands Recall of Dry Pet Food for Salmonella

Natura Pet Products is expanding its recall of dry pet food because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been confirmed to date.

You can see the table of affected products at the FDA web site. The list is very long; examine it carefully to see if you have any of the recalled products. The recall includes California Natural dog and cat food, Evo Dog and cat food, Evo ferret food, Healthwise cat and dog food, Innova dog and cat food, and Karma dog food. The lot codes are: Expioration dates from 12/14/13 through 3/24/14. The original recall had product expiration dates through 1/2/14. You can also see all of the product labels at the FDA site.

Pets with Salmonella infections can experience lethargy, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. People can contract salmonellosis simply by handling the pet food. Otherwise healthy pets could be carriers of Salmonella and infect people and other animals.

The foods are sold through veterinary clinics, pet specialty retailers in the U.S. and in Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malysia, and Costa Rice. They are also sold online. If you purchased these pet foods, discard them in a sealed container so animals can’t eat them. For more information and questions, call the company at 800-224-6123 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm CT.
