Reser’s Fine Foods is expanding its recall of chicken, ham and beef products to include ALL products made between September 5 and October 9, 2013. The products, many of which are ready-to-eat, may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The newly recalled products include chicken salads, ham salads, BBQ beans, and potato salad. Recalled brand names include Cross Valley Farms, Reser’s Fine Foods, Millers, Chef Solutions, Stonemill Kitchens, Yoder’s, Walmart, Essential Everyday, Save-A-Lot, Mrs. Weaver’s, Kroger, Cobble Street Market, Dillons, and Block and Barrel. You can see the list of newly recalled products at the USDA web site. The recalled products regulated by the USDA will have the establishment number “EST. 13520” or “P-13520” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was discovered through microbiological testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Product contact surfaces cross-contaminated these products. There have been no reports of illnesses to date. These products were distributed to retailers nationwide.
The symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, include flu-like fever and muscle aches, upset stomach or diarrhea, stiff neck, headache, loss of balance, confusion, or convulsions. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness, but Listeria bacteria can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. One of the problems with this illness is that symptoms may not start until 70 days after exposure. If you consumed any of the recalled products, monitor yourself for illness for the next two months. If you do become ill, see your doctor and tell her you ate one of these products.
