Steve’s Real Food Recalling Raw Frozen Pet Food for Possible Salmonella

Steve’s Real Food of Utah is recalling Turducken raw frozen dog food because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella can make animals sick and can also sicken people who handle the food. Pet owners should monitor their dogs for these symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. Pets may be lethargic, and only have decreased appetite. Healthy pets can carry the bacteria and infect other animals or people.

The recalled product is 5 pound bags of Turducken Canine Diet – 8 ounce Patties.  It was distributed from October 2012 to January 2013 in retail stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, California, Minnesota, and Tennessee. The lot number is 209-10-27-13 and the expiration date is October 27, 2013. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption or handling of this product.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture found the bacteria in routine sampling. The product is sold in 5 pound green and cream colored biodegradable film bags. If you purchased this product, return it to the place of purchase for a refund. For questions and more information, call the company at 801-540-8481 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm MT.
