Genoa Salami Recalled in Canada for Possible Listeria

In Canada, the CFIA and Concord Premium Meats are recalling salami because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recalled product is Marc Angelo Genoa Salami sold in 100 gram packages. The code on the product is Best Before: 14 DE 01. The UPC number is 6 27907 05735 9. It was sold in Ontario and Quebec.

If you have any of this salami, discard it in a closed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well after handling this food. You also need to clean your refrigerator, counters, cupboard and drawer handles, and any surfaces or utensils that came into contact with the meat. A mild bleach solution of 1 teaspoon bleach in 1 gallon of water will kill the bacteria. Remember that Listeria bacteria can survive at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of the recalled salami, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include high fever, severe headache, diarrhea, stiffness, nausea, and abdominal pain. Listeria infections can cause miscarriage and stillbirths in pregnant women, even though those women may only be mildly ill.
