In Canada, Shredded Cheese Recalled for Possible Listeria

In Canada, Castle Cheese is recalling shredded cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The products were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. No illnesses have been reported in association with this recall.

The recalled products are all Okanagan’s Choice Cheese brand. They include Nacho Blend – Cheddar, Mozzarella Shredded Cheese, in 200 gram packages with UPC number 0 59756 08208 2 and code best before 15JA13, along with Shredded Cheddar Cheese in 200 gram packages, with UPC number 0 59756 08008 8 and best before 15JA13. Also recalled is Shredded Mozzarella Cheese in 200 gram packages with UPC number 0 59756 08108 5 and best before 15JA20, along with Shredded Parmesan Cheese in 175 gram packages with UPC number 0 59756 07210 6 and best before 15JA20. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Return them to the place of purchase for a refund or discard them. If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the signs of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may only be sick with a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
