In Canada, Wilton Cheese Recalled for Possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and A.M. Jensen Ltd. are recalling some cheddar cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product have been reported to date.

The recalled product is Wilton Cheese Factory Old Cheddar Cheese (White) in variable sizes. The code on the cheese is “Packed on: 14.01.27” through “Packed on: 14.02.06.” It was sold in the Ontario area, from Wilton Cheese Factory at 287 Simmons Rd.

If you purchased this cheese, do not eat it. Discard it in a closed container or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

If you ate this cheese, you must monitor yourself for signs of listeriosis, the illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, for the next 70 days. That’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Those symptoms include nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may have only very mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
